T he Pentagon and Defense Department are continuing their investigations into the mishandling of dozens of U.S. military service-member remains over the last three years. Some body parts were lost, burned, cut-away and even dumped as garbage in a Virginia landfill.
This has created additional heartache for the families of dead soldiers and Marines who died fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The Air Force Mortuary Affairs Office has been the central location for body transfer for military personnel since 2009. More than 1375 bodies have come through the facility since then.
In this week’s INFocus we will take an in-depth look at the process involved with preparing the bodies of dead military service members back to their families, the grief and shock expressed by the affected families, the investigation and the people who came forward to tell the truth.
